General Plan Housing Element

Summary

The City is currently updating the Housing Element in coordination with the preparation of the new General Plan.  The Housing Element is part of the Freemont MewsCity’s General Plan and sets forth the policies and programs to meet the housing needs of all types of households in our City. The programs included in this document are designed to provide a variety of housing choices to current and future Sacramento residents. State housing element law (Government Code Sections 65580-65589.8) requires each local government to review and update the housing element of its General Plan at least every five years. The 2002-2007 Housing Element was adopted by City Council on June 10, 2003.

The new Housing Element is expected to be completed by the summer of Acacia Meadows Apt2008.  The Housing Element Update has a comprehensive outreach strategy which includes utilizing existing General Plan workshops, five community meetings, three stakeholder meetings, General Plan Advisory Committee and Housing/Infill Subcommittee meetings, and fourteen board/commission meetings.  The update is managed by the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency in close coordination with the City’s Planning Department.

Additional information about the housing element and state requirements is available at the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).

Community Outreach

As part of the public input process for this project, five community meetings focusing on housing needs and issues were held in August and early Photo of Community Outreach September of 2007. The meetings were intended to provide more information on the Housing Element Update and to allow the public to provide feedback about the City's housing needs. The workshops were very productive. A summary of the public's input will be available on this website in January.
