What is Planning Academy

The Planning Academy is a course designed to educate and engage residents and business and community leaders in the City’s planning process. • The New General Plan process
  • Legal and implementation framework for planning
  • Smart Growth and sustainable development
  • Elements of classic, older neighborhoods
  • Infill strategy and implementation program
  • Transit-Oriented Development (TOD)
  • Community involvement in planning decisions

The Planning Academy will give students the tools needed to:

  • Identify the regional costs and impacts associated with urban sprawl versus smart growth
  • Identify the elements of successful projects
  • Participate in the planning and development review process
  • Educate other community members about smart growth and how they can support smart development proposals
